My dad gave a speech on finding the perfect backhoe for the job.
My mom informed me that my dad was giving a speech at a convention. My dad had always been there for me, attending my ballet recitals, softball games, and spelling bees. I figured attending the conference and listening to his speech was the least I could do to repay him. My dad took the stage. As he approached the podium, I looked at the program. His speech was on finding the perfect backhoe for the job. I really didn't have much of an interest in the topic, but I was there to support my dad, not the information he was presenting. The audience was obviously interested. When his speech was over, he got a standing ovation. But, what do you expect from a bunch of contractors and construction workers. They're interested in things like taht. I, on the other hand, am not. My dad thanked me for coming. He asked why I would possibly want to come and listen to a speech on backhoes. I told him that I loved him and just wanted to hear the sound of his voice. He chuckled a little, then gave me a big hug. I knew he was happy to see me there, and I know he was even more surprised that I showed up.
