In a large firm, the legal secretary functions as the secretary to about two or three different attorneys usually practicing in the same area. Your desk will be located outside their offices in the hallway or a main area where they can all access you when needed. You will probably receive calls from the receptionist who routes the incoming calls. She can announce the clients beforehand. This way you know whose client is calling in. Your duties will be the same as any other legal secretary in smaller firms. The difference is, within a large firm, there may be room for advancement into higher areas.
