Hanging Your Portable Hammock

Hanging portable hammocks takes a little practice. You’ll want to experiment to find the right place on the porch or in the garden, in at least partial shade - no one wants to get sunburn in a hammock. The correct distance between the two supports should be 2 1/2 to 3 feet greater than the length of the hammock’s bed, according to Happy Land, sales manager for the Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock. For a 12-foot hammock, you’ll need two trees or posts about 15 feet apart. To hang a hammock, you’ll need rope or hardware, usually provided when you buy your hammock. Hammocks should be attached to trees with a clove hitch in a good length of rope, although a couple of half hitches are commonly used.
